Kimberly Skondin, Artistic Director
Kimberly Skondin holds her Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from University of Oregon and Masters in K-12 Music Education from Portland State University. Kimberly is a level four certified Kodaly educator and has extensive experience performing, teaching, and directing choirs with the Youth Choir of Central Oregon. She has been the artistic director of the ORS Youth Choirs since 2014, and in 2016 won the prestigious Excellence in Elementary Music Education award from the Oregon Music Education Association.
In addition to her work with Oregon Repertory Singers, Kim is a K-5 music specialist at Hazeldale Elementary in the Beaverton school district, serves of the Oregon Music Educators Association Board, and National Planning committee for the Kodaly Conference. Prior to her work in the Portland metro area, she was the K-5 music specialist at Buckingham Elementary School in Bend, OR where she founded the Bronco Singers in 2011 which grew from 20 singers to 60 singers in three years.
Barbara McQuillen, Musicianship Director
Barbara McQuillen has taught music at the Elementary, Middle School or High School level in the Lake Oswego School District for the past 24years. She holds a Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Arizona and recently completed Kodaly Level 2 certification at Portland State. She currently teaches K-5 general music at Oak Creek Elementary School.
Jeff Evans, Musicianship Instructor and Vivo Expanding Voices Director
Jeff Evans is an educator, conductor, and multi-instrumentalist originally from Tucson Arizona. He holds a Bachelors of Music in Music Education from Portland State University, and has completed Kodaly level 1 training. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting at Portland State University. From 2014-2018 Jeff was director of choirs at Valley Catholic School in Beaverton Oregon, where he taught middle and high school music. Jeff is a member of the Oregon Repertory Singers adult choir, for which he holds the position of Bass Section Leader. Jeff joined the ORSYC staff in 2018.
Erika Uribe, Accompanist and Rehearsal Assistant
Erika Uribe has been ORSYC’s accompanist and rehearsal assistant since 2011. Erika teaches K-4 elementary general music and choir at Captain Strong Primary in Battle Ground, WA. She has taught elementary general music and choir in multiple schools settings in the Portland Metro Area and in Oakland, CA. Erika has been accompanying since high school, playing in a variety of performance settings including choir, musicals, and for vocal and instrumental soloists. She has completed 4 levels of Kodaly training, and is an active board member of Southwest Washington/Oregon Kodaly Educators. She loves making music with people of all ages and believes in the power of singing to bring people together.
Casey Albelo, Musicianship Instructor and Rehearsal Assistant
Casey Albelo has 2 children singing in the ORS Youth Choirs and is excited to be a part of the teaching team. She recently re-entered the workforce after being a stay at home mom for 10 years. Casey currently teaches general music at Beaver Acres Elementary School in the Beaverton School District and is happy to be back in the classroom. She has experience with grades K-12, running choral programs, directing musicals, and mentoring other teachers. She was the Assistant Director of the Phoenix Children’s Chorus in Phoenix, Arizona, and has taught children’s choirs at Milwaukie Lutheran Church and Reedwood Friends Church. Casey is Kodaly certified Level 1, and is very glad to be a member of the ORS Youth Choir staff.
Julia McGarrity, Musicianship Instructor and Rehearsal Assistant
Julia McGarrity Holds a Masters of Education as well as a Bachelors of Music Education from Portland State University. She is a former Violist for the PSU Symphony where she gained experiences performing with the Portland Ballet, China Forbes from Pink Martini, and was able to work with world renowned conductors. Julia has completed her Level One Kodaly certification, and finished her student teaching under the guidance of Dustin Hunley. In addition to working with the Oregon Repertory Singers, Julia is a K-5 music specialist at Hiteon Elementary in the Beaverton School District where she conducts an after school choir, theater program, and soon to be elementary orchestra. Julia’s prior teaching experience include: Writing curriculum, leading lectures, and teaching for the Montessori Schools of North Portland, directing the Young Musicians Choir at First Presbyterian Church, and conducting music for Portland Parks and Recreation’s Theater Programs. Outside of the classroom you can find Julia singing, songwriting, working on her next album of music, and performing at local Portland Venues. Julia began teaching with ORS in January 2019.
