Patterson is known for her dynamic leadership, nuanced conducting, and expertise in selecting literature representative of diverse composers and voices. “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am excited to welcome Aubrey Patterson to the ORSYC program. Aubrey’s extensive background in choral conducting and teaching at the high school level, her long list of achievements and accolades, and her investment in building the choral community through her collaborative and professional involvements will offer our young singers exciting new opportunities. I look forward to the continued growth and success of our organization under her leadership and vision.”

Doug Rank, Board President of Oregon Repertory Singers

“I am honored and excited to be selected as the new Artistic Director for ORSYC. I look forward to working with passionate singers of all ages and consciously building a cohesive musical community. I have long admired Oregon Repertory Singers as an arts organization that is devoted to choral excellence and arts outreach in the Portland community. We will be innovative in today’s changing landscape, offer new opportunities and ensembles, and look forward to working collaboratively with our parent and school communities to increase and diversify our enrollment while championing choral repertoire composed by historically underrepresented communities. Together, we will build upon the strong foundation of Oregon Repertory Singers Youth Choir for years to come.”

Aubrey Patterson, Artistic Director, Oregon Repertory Singers Youth Choir Program

“I am beyond excited about the appointment of Aubrey as the new Artistic Director of our youth choir program. Her energy is contagious. Her musicianship and artistry are unmatched.  Her vision is inspiring. The youth in our community are in good hands with Aubrey and I feel confident our program will soar with her at the helm.”

Lauren Bryan, Executive Director of Oregon Repertory Singers

Since her official appointment in early August, Patterson has been working with our Youth Choir committee to create a fresh and innovative vision for the youth choir program. Her focus will be on inclusivity and expanded access, excellent music education experiences, and joyful choral connections. Each new idea will be rooted in research, data, and community feedback in order to responsibly address and engage the young singers of the Portland area.  Patterson’s approach will be centered around creating quality musical experiences, program growth, and offering valuable opportunities that expand our youth’s understanding of culture, collaboration, and connections to others through music.

Patterson begins her tenure as Artistic Director at a challenging time due to the continuing COVID crisis and its variants. We are engaging in conversations about what can safely be offered to our youth in the fall. We are currently prioritizing support for our new AD and are working together to mitigate health risks as well as administer Aubrey’s artistic vision and the creation of the youth choir teaching staff. Please watch our website, social media channels, and email to stay informed about our plans

Please join us in welcoming Aubrey Patterson to our youth choir family!
