Oregon Repertory Singers | Season 45

Shadows on the Stars
The music of Veljo Tormis & Morten Lauridsen
3pm, Saturday & Sunday October 13 & 14, 2018

The singers open the 2018-19 season with a concert celebrating ORS’ past and future. Works by Estonian composer Veljo Tormis honor our long relationship with the composer, who was first invited to the United States by ORS years ago. Celebrating our present and future, ORS performs Mid-Winter Songs and more by world-renowned composer and visiting special guest Morten Lauridsen. The concert marks both the opening of our 45th season and the release of our new album Shadows on the Stars, featuring music by Dr. Lauridsen and other Pacific NW Composers.

Glory of Christmas
4pm, Sundays December 2 & 9, 2018
7:30pm, Friday December 7, 2018

This year’s annual holiday concert brings our loyal and overflowing audiences many treasured seasonal favorites, including Biebl’s Ave Maria and Ešenvalds’ Stars, alongside Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium, Pärt’s Bogoroditse Devo and Magnificat, and Naomi LaViolette’s Angel in the Snow. The ORS Youth Choir begins the concert with a very special prelude performance, and guest middle and high school students join the singers for a festive finale performance of Betelehemu.

White Light
The music of Arvo Pärt
3pm, Saturday & Sunday April 27 & 28, 2019

ORS’ 45th season closes with a celebration of Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, the most performed living composer in the world and another important figure from the choir’s history. Describing his work, Pärt famously said, “I could compare my music to white light, which contains all colors. Only a prism can divide the colors and make them appear. This prism could be the spirit of the listener.” The program includes his Berliner Messe, which was featured on a recording released by ORS in 1993. The singers perform this and Pärt’s Te Deum with string orchestra, as well as the a capella work The Woman with the Alabaster Box.
