Oregon Repertory Singers begins our 44th season with Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, published in 1947 and dedicated by the composer to his father’s memory. This profound and meditative setting of the requiem mass emphasizes a peaceful passing into paradise. We perform the work for choir, soloists, and organ, featuring internationally renowned organist Jonas Nordwall. Jonas returns to the stage with us after his stunning performances in 2016 in The Armed Man and Glory of Christmas.

Accompanying the Requiem is a collection of music by composers from the Pacific Northwest. The program includes the Northwest premiere of a setting of Dana Gioia’s “Prayer” by National Medal of Arts winner and Portland native Morten Lauridsen. We will also perform music from local composers Joan Szymko, Naomi LaViolette, Giselle Wyers, and Stacey Philipps. These works and more will be included on the choir’s new album set for release in fall 2018.
